This stunning handcrafted glass chawan (matcha bowl) is made in resemblance of a classic Raku chawan, having a hantsutsu-gata (半筒形 - half-cylindrical) shape and the appearance of glaze dripping down the outside of the bowl. These glass drips are filled with tiny air bubbles that sparkle as they catch the light, while the bottom of the bowl is crystal clear.
Experts in manipulating glass, Nakamura Glass studio is sure to cool these bowls extremely slowly and evenly overnight, meaning that they are heatproof and can even handle the shock of boiling water. Additional, special attention has been paid to give the surface just the right amount of grip so that the bowls would not be too slippery to the touch,
Please note that due to the nature of glass-blowing and handmade arts, each chawan will vary subtly in its pattern of bubbles and drips.
Handmade by Nakamura Glass Studio in Tokyo, each chawan comes in its kiribako (桐箱 - wooden paulownia box)
