This Kutani-yaki cha-koboshi (waste water bowl) features a blue mountainous motif.

A cha-koboshi (茶こぼし) is a waste water vessel used to hold any water that has been used to preheat or rinse the other utensils in senchado (煎茶道 - sencha tea ceremony) in much the same way as a kensui (建水) is used during a matcha tea ceremony. In fact, cha-koboshi are sometimes called kensui and kensui are sometimes called koboshi, showing their relation.

Kutani-yaki (九谷焼) is a style of Japanese porcelain traditionally from Kutani, now a part of Kaga, Ishikawa, in the former Kaga Province, Japan. Porcelain wares made here became popular in the 17th century and after production in Kutani was revived in the 19th century, it is known for its intricate designs, called aka-e kinran-de (赤絵 金襴手) Kutani
