mare-tencha
Mare Tencha

This koicha-grade tencha has notes of cashews and cream and is blended primarily from top-grade, hand-picked leaves including Asahi and Uji-Hikari. The final blend is then gently dried and finished by hand over binchotan charcoal. This is the exact same tencha that is ground to produce our Mare matcha.

The name Mare (希) means "Rarity".

Tencha can be enjoyed in numerous ways: brewed hot, cold brewed, ground into matcha, or sprinkled on top of food. Brewing this tea hot, like one might brew a kabusecha or a gyokuro, brings out similar flavours to its matcha form, but with a completely different texture. Grinding matcha at home is difficult as no home tea grinders can compare with full-scale stone millstones, but decent results can be obtained with a Porlex Tea Mill.

Producer: Arita Sansuien
Region: Uji, Kyoto (Jōyō, Yawata, Kumiyama, Ide, Wazuka)
Cultivar: Blend: Samidori (hand and machine-picked), Asahi (hand-picked), Uji-Hikari (hand-picked), Okumidori (machine)
Harvested: April-May, 2026
Picking: Hand and Machine Picked
Shaded: 33-55 Days
