This expertly crafted Banko-yaki kyusu (teapot) is made from the iconic Banko shidei (紫泥) clay, known for its muted purple colour and ability to subtly reduce the astringency of tea. The body is decorated with a traditional pattern known as diamond cut.
The teapot's built-in ceramic debeso filter is perfect for naturally straining tea.
Made by Mori Iroku (森伊呂久). Born in 1963, Mori-san is the fourth generation to bear the name Iroku. He specialises in Banko kyusu using traditional techniques passed down by his father, such as this diamond cut design.
Banko-yaki (萬古焼) is a type of Japanese pottery that traditionally comes from Yokkaichi in Mie Prefecture, Japan. Its characteristic purple hue comes from the mixture of red oxidised iron and blue high temperature-baked iron in the clay.
