This product is no longer available

This elegant Banko-yaki chawan (matcha bowl) has a uniquely shaped takatsuki koudai (高杯高台 - tall cup foot) and is glazed and decorated in the Aka-e (赤絵 - red-painted) style, reminiscent of Shibukusa wares.

This chawan was made by Horino Shoji (堀野証嗣) of Hachiman Kiln (八幡窯).

Banko-yaki (萬古焼) is a type of Japanese pottery that traditionally comes from Yokkaichi in Mie Prefecture, Japan. Its characteristic purple hue comes from the mixture of red oxidised iron and blue high temperature-baked iron in the clay.
