This Agano-yaki chawan (matcha bowl) is made in the Goki-gata shape, with a tall、flaring foot and gentle rokurome (ろくろ目 - potters' wheel marks) which shows the flow of the potter's fingers as they shaped the piece on the wheel. Atop the red-orange clay body, this chawan has a rustic ash glaze, with shades of brown and green.

Made between 1958 and 1979 by Shirakawa Hosen (白川甫硯) the 11th generation potter of Totoki Kiln (十時窯), this chawan comes with its original Kiribako (桐箱 - wooden paulownia box)

Agano-yaki (上野焼) is a type of Japanese pottery that traditionally comes from Fukuchi in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. Praised for its elegance and light weight, Agano ware began being produced in the 17th century.

Agano ware is famous for its use of enamels over the glaze. The most well-known of these enamels produces a vibrant blue-green/turquoise dripping effect caused by copper oxide in the enamel.
