Japanese Sukiya-bukuro - Hishigatahiushigemon Silk Brocade

This product is no longer available

This elegant sukiya-bukuro (数寄屋袋 - sukiya pouch) is made from a silk brocade, woven in a traditional Chinese pattern called 菱形飛牛華文 (hishigatahiushigemon).

Sukiya-bukuro (数寄屋袋) are fabric pouches, typically woven from silk, that are used used by guests in a tea ceremony to carry various items. They are larger than fukusa-basami, but are also used to carry similar things, such as kaishi paper, fukusa, folding fans (sensu), and kuromoji/yoji. They can also be used for carrying personal items in other formal or casual settings.
