About the role

Tezumi is looking for a thoughtful, reliable Warehouse Associate to join our small team. We operate an e-commerce warehouse specializing in Japanese tea and teaware.

This role is less about packing as quickly as possible and more about accuracy, presentation, organization, and treating every order with exceptional care.

Responsibilities

  • Care deeply about customer service and the overall customer experience.
  • Pick, inspect, safely pack, label, and ship customer orders accurately.
  • Prepare polished, presentation-sensitive gift and VIP packages.
  • Follow detailed packing instructions and verify products, quantities, addresses, and special requests.
  • Receive, count, organize, and maintain inventory.
  • Count and audit inventory accurately using an inventory management system.
  • Investigate and communicate inventory discrepancies, damaged products, and process issues.
  • Update order and inventory information using Shopify and spreadsheets.
  • Keep the packing and warehouse areas clean, safe, and organized.
  • Collaborate closely with the rest of the Tezumi team and help improve fulfillment processes.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional attention to detail and pride in producing careful, polished work.
  • Analytical, process-oriented, dependable, and comfortable following repeatable systems.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Strong written and spoken English sufficient to accurately understand order notes, product labels, safety instructions, and communications with coworkers and customers.
  • Comfortable counting, reconciling, and auditing physical inventory within an inventory management system.
  • Basic proficiency with spreadsheets such as Google Sheets.
  • Previous experience with Shopify, Etsy, Faire, e-commerce fulfillment, inventory management, or a similar order-management system.
  • Experience operating, maintaining, or supporting an organic certification and compliance program is a plus.
  • Genuine interest in Japanese tea and its cultural context; existing knowledge of Japanese tea is strongly preferred.
  • Japanese heritage and Japanese-language ability are not required.

Physical requirements

The essential functions of this position include standing, walking, bending, reaching, and performing repetitive packing tasks during a shift. The employee must be able to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds and place items on elevated shelving, including above shoulder height, with or without reasonable accommodation. Safe lifting practices, team assistance, or appropriate equipment should be used when needed.

Tezumi is an equal opportunity employer. Employment decisions are made without regard to any characteristic protected by applicable federal, New York State, or New York City law.
