This Agano-yaki houhin (teapot) sports a blue-green drip enamel glaze. This striking colour of this enamel drip is caused by copper oxide and is one of the iconic styles of Agano ware.
It has a ceramic do-ake filter and a narrower spout than most houhin, allowing for a slower, more controlled pour.
Agano-yaki (上野焼) is a type of Japanese pottery that traditionally comes from Fukuchi in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. Praised for its elegance and light weight, Agano ware began being produced in the 17th century.
Agano ware is famous for its use of enamels over the glaze. The most well-known of these enamels produces a vibrant blue-green/turquoise dripping effect caused by copper oxide in the enamel.
