This multicoloured lacquered wood kogo (incense container) is decorated with the traditional 'Koma' pattern. This distinctive design is of Southeast Asian origin, and is named for its resemblance to a spinning top.
Typically, ceramic kogo are used during the Ro season to hold neriko (kneaded incense balls) and wooden or lacquered wood kogo are used during the Furo season to hold wood chip incense.
