This Banko-yaki kyusu is decorated with gilded red flowers. This teapot comes with a nozomi-style fine mesh 'swing' filter, which holds the tea leaves above the bottom of the teapot, ensuring that they don't over-steep between infusions. Made by Akutsu (阿久津).
Banko-yaki (萬古焼) is a type of Japanese pottery that traditionally comes from Yokkaichi in Mie Prefecture, Japan. Its characteristic purple hue comes from the mixture of red oxidised iron and blue high temperature-baked iron in the clay.
