This hira-gata (flat-shaped) Banko-yaki kyusu (teapot) features a wide top opening which allows easy viewing and access of the leaves. The flat shape is also great for even extraction of umami, great for brewing gyokuro and high-grade sencha. The pot comes with a simple debeso (half-spherical) filter which adds no metallic tastes to the tea.
Banko-yaki (萬古焼) is a type of Japanese pottery that traditionally comes from Yokkaichi in Mie Prefecture, Japan. Its characteristic purple hue comes from the mixture of red oxidised iron and blue high temperature-baked iron in the clay.
