A beige Agano-yaki kyusu (teapot) with a turquoise drip enamel. This teapot has a do-ake filter made directly in the wall of the teapot's body. This means that no metal filter comes in contact with the steeping the tea, keeping the taste pure.
Agano-yaki (上野焼) is a type of Japanese pottery that traditionally comes from Fukuchi in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. Praised for its elegance and light weight, Agano ware began being produced in the 17th century.
Agano ware is famous for its use of enamels over the glaze. The most well-known of these enamels produces a vibrant blue-green/turquoise dripping effect caused by copper oxide in the enamel.
