This Echizen-yaki chawan (matcha bowl) is made in a heavily Korean-inspired style, with a tall bamboo node-shaped foot (竹の節高台 - takenofushi koudai), flaring lip, spotted 'gohonte' (御本手) pattern, and white slip brush stroke decoration (刷毛目 - hakeme).
Made in the 1980s by Satoshi Goto (五島哲) of Tsubaki Kiln (椿窯), this chawan comes in its original kiribako (桐箱 - wooden paulownia box).
Echizen-yaki (越前焼), from the are around the of Echizen in Fukui Prefecture, is one of Japan's oldest ceramic traditions and is considered one of the Six Ancient Kilns (六古窯).
