This tenmoku-gata Kyo-yaki chawan (matcha bowl) features a beige crazed exterior glaze decorated with illustrations of rabbits, frogs, and other animals from the famous Animal Caricatures scrolls (Chōjū-giga -鳥獣戯画) of Kōzan-ji temple (高山寺). Its deep black interior glaze beautifully contrasts with the green color of matcha. Made by Kiyama (貴山)

Kyo-yaki (京焼) is a type of Japanese pottery that traditionally comes from Kyoto, Japan. The pottery traditions of Kyoto date back to the 5th century and are varied in their styles.
