Japanese Matcha Bowl - 芳野俊通 Toshimichi Yoshino - 鳳窯 Otori Kiln - Green Speckled Chawan - 200ml

This product is no longer available

This komogai-nari chawan (matcha bowl) features a subtly flared lip and is covered in a greenish-grey glaze webbed with fine crazing and dotted with iron spots.

Made by Toshimichi Yoshino (芳野俊通) of Otori Kiln (鳳窯), this chawan comes in its original kiribako (桐箱 - wooden paulownia box).

Shingu-yaki (新宮焼) hails from the town of Shingu in Wakayama Prefecture. The small production area was forgotten when the main kiln was decommissioned in 1890 after it was extensively damaged by a large flood. The small revival of Shingu-yaki can be credited to Toshimichi Yoshino (芳野俊通).
