This hira-gata (flat-shaped) summer chawan (matcha bowl) is made in the yellow Irabo style (黄伊羅保- 'ki-irabo), featuring a translucent yellow glaze which showcases the clay's coarse and rustic texture. Areas where the earth ash glaze has pooled exhibit a slight green tinge. The bowl is decorated with three stripes on the front of the bowl where the clay has been shaved away. Its wide shallow shape allows the tea to cool quicker, making it perfect for warmer summer months.
