This Takatori-yaki chawan (matcha bowl) has a katazori-gata shape with and undulating lip and noticeable rokurome (ろくろ目 - potters' wheel marks) which show the flow of the potter's fingers as they shaped the piece on the wheel. The bowl has a translucent ash glaze, decorated with a simple drawing of three trees.
This chawan was made in 1987 by Kizu Toizumi (木津豊泉) to the Imperial Poetic Theme (御題・勅題 - gyodai/chokudai) of the year: 木 (ki - tree) and comes in its original kiribako (桐箱 - wooden paulownia box.
