This stunning chawan (matcha bowl) features an entrancing yuteki (油滴 - oil-spot) tenmoku glaze of rust red and deep blue, draped over a wan-nari shaped clay body. Originating in Jian ware from Song Dynasty China, this style of glazing was originally praised for its dark colour which contrasts nicely with the froth of whisked tea. In Japan, the bowls that bore this glaze became known as Tenmoku.
