This marvelous clay Kiyomizu-yaki mizusashi (water container) is decorated in the mishima (三島) technique with a grey glaze contrasting against the white slip inlay of etched lines and stamped chrysanthemums and geometric patterns.
A mizusashi (水指 - fresh water container) is used to store fresh water used to refill the kama (釜 - kettle) during a tea ceremony. They are usually made from ceramics, lacquer, or occasionally bare wood.
