This black urushi lacquer natsume (matcha caddy) is decorated with gold crab motifs across its body and lid.
Natsume are one of the two types of containers used to hold and present the matcha during a tea ceremony. They are used when preparing 'thin tea' or usucha (foamy matcha).
Because most natsume are not airtight, they are not suitable for long term storage of matcha and are only intended for short term use, designed for presentation and heightening the tea making experience.
