This orange and black lacquer natsume (matcha caddy) is made from wood coated with traditional urushi lacquer. Its lid featured masterfully crafted trim.
Matcha natsume are one of the two traditional containers used to present the powdered tea during a tea ceremony. Named after the Japanese word for the jujube fruit due to their similar shape, natsume are used when preparing usucha (thin, foamy matcha).
Because most natsume are not airtight, they are not suitable for long term storage and are only intended for presentation and heightening the tea making experience.
