This Japanese tea set includes one houhin (handleless teapot) and two matching senchawan (small teacups), each featuring a finely crazed warm grey glaze, decorated with rust-coloured hakeme (刷毛目, brush stroke) design.
Compared to a kyusu, a houhin has a wide, triangular open spout which allows for fast pouring, a simple ceramic do-ake filter which lends no metallic taste to the tea, and a wide opening which allows for easy viewing of the tea leaves and easy cleaning. In addition, the lip of this houhin (the ledge on which the lid rests) features a '3-day moon'-crescent shaped extension above the filter which prevents leaks when pouring, and a setback on the opposite side which aids in removing the used tea leaves.
This tea set is perfect for brewing up high-quality Japanese teas. *Note: because each piece is handmade, the items might vary from the pictures slightly in shape and glaze.
