This expertly crafted Banko-yaki yunomi (teapot) is made from the iconic Banko shidei (紫泥) clay, known for its muted purple colour and ability to subtly reduce the astringency of tea. The body is decorated with a traditional pattern known as diamond cut.
Banko-yaki (萬古焼) is a type of Japanese pottery that traditionally comes from Yokkaichi in Mie Prefecture, Japan. Its characteristic purple hue comes from the mixture of red oxidised iron and blue high temperature-baked iron in the clay.
