This Mino-yaki yunomi (tea cup) features an organic sorigata shape, with a pronounced spiral effect called rokurome (ろくろ目 - pottery wheel marks) made by the potter's fingers as they slide up the cup, shaping it on the pottery wheel. It is draped in a soft grey glaze with subtle beige and pink spots in a pattern called gohonte (御本手).
Mino-yaki (美濃焼,) is a type of Japanese pottery produced in Mino Province in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Since the introduction of mass production in the Meiji period (1868–1912), Mino ware accounts for around 50% of Japanese pottery produced today.
