These tatami coasters add a touch of rustic tradition to any tea setup. Woven from washi paper rather than igusa straw, they are easier to maintain won't change colour over time, keeping their fresh green hue. The are woven in meseki-ori (目積織) which is denser and tighter than the hikime-ori (引き目織) weave used for regular floor tatami mats, making them more water-resistant.
These coasters are available in four options of heri (縁 - border):
- Green with Matsuba (松葉 - pine needles)
- Red Seigaiha
- Blue Plum Blossoms
- Black with Red Plum Blossoms
Made by Sousouan (艸々庵), fine crafters of tatami mats in Osaki City, Miyagi Prefecture and winners of the 2017 National Skills Grand Prix for their tatami craftsmanship.
