Chashaku Named "Nagoyaka" - Carved by Former Daitoku-ji Abbot
VintageThis elegantly carved chashaku (matcha scoop) was carved by Satō Bokudō (佐藤朴堂) who gave it the poetic name Nagoyaka (なごやか - Calm and Gentle). The chashaku has a classic shape with a naka-fushi (中節 - middle node), round kaisaki, arigoshi (蟻腰 - ant's waist) carved out node section, and a single cut kiridome.
The chashaku comes with its tsutsu (筒): a bamboo cylinder with carved wood lid that bears the name of the scoops along with the seal of Satō Bokudō. This tube comes in a kiribako (桐箱 - paulownia wood box) which also bears the name of the scoop on the inside of the lid. Lastly this is housed in a paper box.
Satō Bokudō (佐藤朴堂) was born in 1935 and 1971 he became the Chief Priest of Fukujuin Temple, a branch of Daitokuji. In 1977, he received the rank of former abbot of Daitoku-ji.
