Green Mogake Ryokudei Tokoname Teapot - 200ml

This product is no longer available

This small and adorable maru-gata Tokoname-yaki kyusu (teapot) is made from ryokudei (緑泥), a type of Tokoname clay that turns green when fired, due to added cobalt. It is decorated with an intricate web of fine mogake (藻掛 - seaweed wrapping) patterns. As the name suggests, this traditional Tokoname technique that dates back to the Edo period is achieved by wrapping each piece with amamo seaweed before firing. In the kiln, the seaweed burns off, leaving its carbonised silhouette draped across the pot.

This kyusu's minute size makes it ideal for solo tea sessions, or for brewing small amounts of high-quality tea.

The teapot's built-in ceramic sasame filter is perfect for naturally straining tea, with a wide shape for faster pouring and less clogging.

Made by Genzou Kiln (原三窯). As Genzou-san has recently retired, the kiln has ceased production.
