Mano Shunen 間野舜園

Born in 1950, Mano Shunen (間野舜園) is the second generation to use the Shunen name and has become famous for his incredibly intricate, multi-layered carved kyusu, which take the traditional art of carved teapots to the next level. Unlike the traditional method, in which the potter and the engraver/carver are two separate artists, Shunen's unique vision and attention to detail means he crafts the entire piece himself, from making the clay, to throwing the pot, assembling the pieces, and carving the designs. Another unique aspect of his kyusu are the downturned spouts which Shunen designed to improve the pouring experience.
