Nukata Shunmei Fukamushi Sencha
MiyazakienAn early-budding cultivar, Shunmei boasts a vibrant colour and gentle taste: both on display in this deep-steamed sencha. The longer steaming time adds body and texture to the tea while softening the aroma and astringency
Nukata is one of the ancient regions of the Mikawa region and during the warring states period of Japan was controlled by the Matsudaira clan. Today, the town is part of the city of Okazaki.
Due to fresh winds and the clear waters that flow from Mt. Hongu, the area has been growing tea for around 400 years, at the direction of Tokugawa Ieyasu.
An early-budding cultivar made from a cross between Yutakamidori and F1NN8 (an unregistered breeding cultivar), which in turn have Asatsuyu, Tamamidori, and Shizu-zairai 6 as ancestors. This genetic background makes Shunmei ideal for sencha, with a vibrant colour, and a decent yield. As a sencha, it is known to be mild and slightly sweet.
