Withered Kikugawa Koushun Sencha
Hattori SeichaWithered sencha, or kaoricha, is a new style of tea that combines the standard sencha processing with brief withering to bring out more aroma. In this tea, the withering amplifies Koushun’s naturally floral aroma and accentuates it with notes of peach and honey.
Producer: Hattori Seicha
Region: Kakegawa, Shizuoka
Cultivar: Koushun
Harvested: May 2025
Picking: Machine
Derived from a 1970 cross between Kurasawa and Kanayamidori, Koushun has grown popular among drinkers of single cultivar teas since its registration in 2000.
It is famous for its unique and powerful floral aroma which is remarkably strong and distinct from that of Yabukita. This aroma makes it ideal not only for light-steamed sencha, but also for production as oxidised teas, such as oolongs and black teas.

Hattori Seicha (服部製茶)
Hattori Seicha was founded by Hattori Yoshiaki (服部吉明), a fourth generation tea wholeseller from a family business with over 100 years of experience. After realising the disconnect between tea drinkers and the farmers that grow their tea, he decided to spin off and start his own company in 1989.
Today, Hattori Seicha specialises in organic and pesticide-free tea cultivation, striving to create safe, natural, and delicious tea in a sustainable and forward-thinking manner. Working in tandem with the rich and diverse microbiome of a tea field and encouraging healthy biodiversity is not only considerate of the environment, but also helps create rich and nutritious soil. An example of Hattori-san's ingenuity is his installation of solar panels over one of his fields which serves both as power generation and as shading.
