Japanese Matcha Bowl - 塩見正春 Shiomi Masaharu - Tobe-yaki Chawan - 300ml

This product is no longer available

This Tobe-yaki chawan (matcha bowl) has a flared-lip komogai-nari shape and a crawling off-white glaze, recalling the silhouette of Korean komogai and katade chawan. As the glaze thins at the lip, the orange of the underlying clay begins to show through.

Made by Shiomi Masaharu (塩見正春), this chawan comes in its original kiribako (桐箱 - wooden paulownia box).

Tobe-yaki (砥部焼) is a Japanese ceramic tradition from Tobe in Ehime prefecture. It is typically known for sometsuke (染付 - blue and white painted porcelain) wares.
