This Matsushiro-yaki chawan (matcha bowl) features a lustrous and flowing green and blue glaze.
Made by Matsui Kiln (松井窯), this chawan comes in its original kiribako (桐箱 - wooden paulownia box).
Matsushiro-yaki (松代焼) is a pottery tradition located in the Matsushiro District of Nagano City that dates back to the early 1800s. The kilns were abandoned around the end of the Taisho era and Matsushiro-yaki was only revived in 1972. Today it is known for its bluish-green glazes which get their colours from iron and copper.
