This elegant yunomi (teacup) has a classic shape and is thrown from an iron-rich red clay, glazed in an iron-rich glaze resulting in a matte, almost metallic black.
Its 100ml capacity along with its classic shape and subtly flared lip, makes this cup ideal for all types of tea.
Please note that due to the organic nature of hand-throwing, glazing, and painting, there are variations between pieces, with each bowl being unique in shape and design. Five pieces are pictured above to display these natural variations.
Made by Kengo Sugawara (菅原顕悟) of Yōki Kiln (陽気窯). Sugawara-san is an independent potter who started a kiln at the foot of Mt. Katsuragi in Nara out of a desire to create goods with his hands. He specialises in kohiki (粉引) a Korean slip coating technique.
