Round Shidei Tochiri Banko-yaki Teapot - 300ml

Tachi Masaki
Regular price $98.00
Description

This expertly crafted Banko-yaki kyusu (teapot) is made from the iconic Banko shidei (紫泥) clay, known for its muted purple colour and ability to subtly reduce the astringency of tea. The body is decorated with a traditional pattern known as 'tochiri' or 'biri', made using a razor blade bounced across the pot as it spins on the pottery wheel.

The teapot's built-in ceramic debeso filter is perfect for naturally straining tea.

Made by Tachi Masaki (舘正規) of Masaki Kiln (正規窯) who has been awarded and recognised for his skill and artistry in kyusu crafting since the age of 21. He is a certified intangible cultural asset of the city of Yokkaichi and has even presented his work to the prince and princess of Japan.
