This Hagi-yaki houhin (handleless-teapot) has a classic shape and features a thick white Shiro Hagi glaze with pinholes.
Shiro Hagi (白萩) is one of Hagi-yaki's most recognisable styles. Also called Kyūsetsu white after Kyūsetsu Miwa who popularised it, this cloudy white glaze gets its milky colour from the addition of rice straw ash (藁灰 - waraba) which devitrifies when fired.
Like most houhin, it has a wide, triangular open spout which allows for fast pouring, a simple ceramic do-ake filter which lends no metallic taste to the tea, and a wide opening which allows for easy viewing of the tea leaves and easy cleaning.
